The Mission of Faith Formation is Life Long Catechesis.  We are always in the process of learning about our faith and our God.  Thus our Religious Education program is designed to assist parents, as the first and foremost teachers of the Faith, in bringing their children into full membership in the community. We view the formation of faith and conscience as a lifelong process that continues in the heart and home long after formal religion classes end. We encourage families to journey together toward a deeper relationship with God, and ask them to call on us to assist them on the journey.

Various opportunities for studying the Bible are provided during the year. This allows us to explore and reflect on the meaning of the Scriptures at a deeper level than is possible during Mass. During these sessions there is an opportunity to reflect on how the Word of God can and should impact our daily lives.

This program is a health care ministry for St. Barnabas Parish. The ministry encourages each individual’s spiritual, physical, emotional, and social well-being. Through this program we seek to develop creative ways to address needs and identify resources which will help to nurture the body, mind, and spirit of all. The team consists primarily of licensed nurses, other members of health care professions, and anyone interested in participating in activities related to the promotion of health within the parish. The Parish Nursing Office is located in the Parish Center- hours are on Thursdays from 9-12noon.

For more info please refer to our Religious Ed Section of our website. Reverence for each other motivates us to create a religious education program which promotes community, emphasizes Gospel values, encourages daily prayer, and fosters frequent participation in the sacramental life of the Church. We hope that our program will lead all to a deeper commitment to the Church and to an active transformation of the world. This program is intended especially for the children of the parish. Regular classes and consistent attendance should begin in the first grade and continue until the child has celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation. We also offer Whole Family Catechesis, where parents are welcome to come with their children for class and as their children learn a particular topic of faith there is an adult catechist who talks about the same topic with the parents. All adults are invited to this portion of our Whole Community Catechesis sessions. Children need to be registered in our program, adults do not. Registration takes place at different times throughout the summer, please see the bulletin for registration dates or call the parish office. We do not offer ongoing registration, children need to be registered at one of our sessions each year. Volunteer teachers are always needed and must have a criminal background check through fingerprinting. We take care of setting this up and all costs. Please contact us if you would like to register your child, volunteer to teach or attend any of our sessions or classes.

Vacation Bible School is a half-day program offered to the children of the parish during the last week of July. It includes daily bible lessons, arts, crafts, music, play activities, and a snack. The program ends with the celebration of Mass on Sunday where the children lead the con-gregation with the hymns they learned in VBS. They also participate in the Mass in other appropriate ways. It is open to all children from those entering kindergarten through those in the sixth grade. There is a small fee for the use of materials during the week.

For more information on Whole Family or Whole Community Catechesis please refer to the Religious Ed/ Faith Formation Section of our website. The goal of Whole Community or Whole Family Catechesis is to involve the entire parish family in the ongoing formation that takes place through the Sunday Mass and readings. One important aspect of this is to offer a "Question of the Week" which can be found in the bulletin each week. The Question is derived from the Gospel on Sunday or one of the readings at Mass. The Mass is the source and summit of all that we do, and thus all our parish functions are connected to Sunday Mass through Whole Community Catechesis. We encourage families to connect their tables at home with the Lord''s table by discussing the Question of the Week together at any time throughout the week. Each parish meeting begins with a sharing of the Question in order to allow faith sharing to become a regular part of our life together as a parish community. As we move on in the process of Whole Community Catechesis we will be offering Family Catechetical (learning) sessions, Adult Faith Formation sessions, discussion sessions after Masses and much more. We hope you participate in Whole Community Catechesis and use the Question of the Week on a regular basis. Families and groups who have utilized this have shared very positive spiritual results.
